Gary and I worked together at Gateway where he was a high-impact senior HR officer. We worked together again at Insight where he was the CHRO and I chaired the board’s Compensation Committee. Across many cultures, Gary is consistently known as an extraordinarily competent HR officer and as an extremely valuable advisor and coach to senior executives across the business. He understands how to develop and leverage his business acumen and HR knowledge to drive business results as well as anyone in the profession. He is continually sought out by senior executives as a coach. He is the consummate listener. He is a developmental pathfinder, partnering with the executive in their growth. All along, he connects the developmental process to improved business performance. Few consultants have the breadth of international background that Gary has. Even fewer have the real world track record for results that he has. His unique combination of solid personal and professional grounding, unquestionable integrity, deep and wide experience, and a steely focus on results make Gary the perfect partner for any executive wanting to grow the contribution they make to the business.
Gary has the unique ability to align the human resources function to effectively drive business strategies through people. Creating human resources value rests in understanding employees’ performance gaps and to assist the organization in eliminating or reducing those gaps with pinpointed accuracy. Through his keen listening, he understands what is being said as well as what isn’t being said. Gary is not one to quickly come up with a solution until he has clearly identified and articulated the problem to our internal stakeholders; however, once the issue is defined, the expectation is that human resources delivers, and quickly, the appropriate solution. Gary is a solid human resources executive and any organization would be fortunate to have him on their team.

Gary is a top-notch executive who works very well with both people and numbers. He has an excellent grasp of the specialist areas within HR and a commitment to driving HR practices that are 100% aligned to the business. He is able to motivate and provide energy, guidance and most of all, focus to critical activities. He has an impressive ability to maximize the performance of the entire HR function. Probably the best compliment I can give him is that if I had it to do over, I would join his team again in a second. Great manager, great leader.
Gary worked for me at Gateway during our explosive growth period. We grew both organically and thru acquisition. We opened up many new facilities in the USA and expanded globally, especially Asia/Pacific. Gary brings a broad base of HR management experience and knowledge that lets him be a valuable business partner that looks for solutions not bureaucratic answers. It also allows him to be a good coach for developing his own people. As a result, he is able to attract outstanding, highly motivated people to work for him. I found him to be a colleague to whom I could try new ideas on and know I would get honest comments, not just what I might want to hear. I also felt he could sit in my chair when I was out of the office. I would hire him in a minute!
Gary and I worked together for five years at Insight Enterprises as the organization grew from an mid-sized company into a Fortune 500 company with annual sales of over $5B. As part of this journey, Gary was instrumental in helping to build the business strategy and the supporting talent plan required to achieve this level of growth and geographic expansion as the company quickly moved from being a US-only company into a true Global company with people and operations throughout the world.
